Laser Keys

If you’ve lost your laser keys or left them inside the car, your best bet would be to call an automotive locksmith to help you get back into your car. Unfortunately, not all locksmith services are equipped to handle laser or sidewinder keys.

Laser keys are also referred to as sidewinder keys because of the way they look. Instead of having the teeth on the edge of the key, the grooves are embedded on the surface of the key, leaving the edge on both sides of the key smooth. This unique design makes the key more durable and gives your car more security as it is very difficult to duplicate. In the past, the only way to get this type of key duplicated is to bring your car back to the dealer and provide proof of ownership to get your car’s key code which is then used to duplicate your sidewinder key. In cases where your original key is lost, the car may need to be reprogrammed in order to be issued a new key and prevent the old keys from being used again. Today, there are a few of automotive locksmith companies with sidewinder key cutters. All you would have to do is provide your car’s VIN number to the locksmith and get your car’s key code for a fee, or get your key code from your dealer for free. The locksmith can then use this information to cut you a new key on the spot.
